I'm so glad we stumbled on to this restaurant. I had the chicken curry penne. Although on the menu it's offered with shrimp and as a vegetarian meal, I had them make it with chicken and it was fantastic. I had it made spicy. Great flavor and not too overpowering. Our server Amber was fantastic. She was very helpful and made suggestions about the food and drinks that we took. Our dinner was fantastic. The atmosphere was ok, a bit closed in dud to columns but some folks might like the semi privacy. A real gem of a place on the beach.

This is a diner review - Giving this place 2-stars, and being generous. 8pm diner on a Tuesday night, you wold expect a place that prices itself as a "nicer" restaurant would have a few more people in it. Unfortunately, this place was empty. And for an empty restaurant, you would hope for a better table, but I was seated right next to the kitchen entrance and a bus boy station. The service was lackluster, even for an empty restaurant. But let's get to the food...Ordered the Filet with the mushroom duxelle with a Caesar salad. The salad was dry with very little dressing. Worst of all was that the salad was very brown and wilted. Unappetizing. Now, for the filet...it's a filet! You don't cut a filet open and stuff the center with mushroom duxelle! It was the worst tasting flavor combination ever. For a $30 steak, it was almost inedible. the only saving grace of the entire diner plate was the mushrooms and wine sauce. I've had better food at McDonalds. If you are staying at Sirata or are in St. Pete Beach looking for a nice diner, look elsewhere before trying Compass Grille. Your wallet and tastebuds will thank you.

This is a breakfast review- Only giving it 2 stars because the servers were nice- not their fault the food tastes like nothing. Literally no taste at all. I had eggs bennies- I had no idea you could make flavorless hollandaise, but you CAN! Hubby had the Sirata sandwich with ham- he said the same thing- no taste at all- used pepper which he never does and ate it only because he was starving. We're staying at the Sirata and were hoping the food would be good so we wouldn't have to leave the property to eat, but sadly that's not possible. On the upside, we're discovering great places in the area! For breakfast check out the Frog Pond. Dinner go to Sea Critters. Bad names with good food.

We loved the food here and atmosphere was cool. Enjoyed the food so much we decided to eat here twice this week. Tonight's dinner was just as good if not better than the first night. Only disappointment was that the first night we got bread with olive oil dipping sauce and did not get it this time.

The seared scallops and Ahi tuna were delicious! But the highlight of our evening was the Grouper with capers and garlic.

Ordered bacon pancakes and oatmeal. The oatmeal came plain with no brown sugar, raisins or milk. We did get milk and brown sugar. Service was cordial. Wait time seemed long for sparse breakfast crowd. I was expecting a larger glass of juice for 4.50. Food was fine. It's a pricey hotel restaurant.

Came here by myself, sat at the bar, and service was terrible. Bartender is brand new and very overwhelmed and nervous but seriously? She forgot to put my order in... Had the bruschetta appetizer... Bread was warm but tomatoes were freezing cold. Was just weird. Ordered cheesecake to go... Will see how that goes. I would not come back honestly....been here over an hour for a crappy appetizer, cheesecake to go and water.

Four stars. Strictly because my country fried steak was fantastic. One of the best I've had. Juicy, not dried out. Great sausage gravy. Coffee was good. Service was great. Come expecting average food. Nothing super special about this place but it's a nice average spot.

We were able to try Compass grille while having breakfast and staying at the Sirata, which is where it's located at. The breakfast buffet was decently priced under $15 with a variety of fresh fruits, oatmeal, grits, bacon, eggs and also an omlet station. The Omlet chef was SO nice and made our food to order and then bringing it to our table. We'd go here again should we stay at the Sirata again.

BEST BREAKFAST IN MID ST PETE BEACH One must consider a restaurant's neighboring peers to be fair, and at breakfast in January in mid St Pete Beach, the only peer is Ihop. Compass Grill exceeds expectations in atmosphere, service, and freshness of ingredients. Cappuccinos and brewed coffees here have a fresh-roasted zing that is missing in most fine establishments. Food was competently prepared, with pretty presentation. I would give 5 stars but for the hollandaise. Genuine, Joy of Cooking hollandaise or better should be on every benedict - or none at all. Compass' was edible.

Ambiance and decor was nice, but that is where it ended. We had a party of 12, and 3 of us ordered the filet, 2 others also ordered soup. Soup arrived cold, then filets arrived, also cold. Filets were gray colored, with some kind of congealed mess on top. I never send food back, but there's a first time for everything, and this was it. Our waiter was great, brought me a complimentary dessert, which was burned. As we left we saw the manager standing and talking with the hostess. We tried to talk to her about the problems and she was very dismissive. By the way, the restrooms were filthy.

Had dinner here last night and was stunned with the food and service. Don't miss the Shrimp Chowder (I have never had so much shrimp in a chowder) and it was 'like nothing I ever had). Grouper Sliders came next. Big, for sliders, but no complaints here! Delicious, right down to the homemade tartar sauce and chips. A MUST! For the main course, we had grilled Grouper over pesto pasta. Again, perfection. The Grouper was just perfect--like it was just caught!) but the pasta almost stole the show. All of this delicious food wrapped up with excellent and caring service. Kudos to Compass Grille Chef and great big shout out to Gabe at the bar.

Great staff! Service is outstanding and food is good for price point!!! They took us in(group of 40) on thanksgiving night last minute (due to a disaster at hurricanes). They accommodated our group with ease!!

One star since the staff tried their best. The food was terrible. We finally figured it out. It was all pre cooked convention style. Had salmon that somehow managed not to taste like much of anything. It was served with frozen veggies. The desert was not edible. How could they mess up a cookie with ice cream?

    (1)
  • Domenic M.

First of all, the service we had was fine. They seem to be emphasizing that now. This is the part of the reason for the second star. We were enthusiastically greeted, and the table service was attentive and informative. The other reason for the second star is the bar drinks (see below). That said, the kitchen is what really ruins the experience. I ordered the prime rib, and asked for a rare or medium rare cut, as available. The end pieces were obviously out, as these can only be medium-well or well-done. The cut that was delivered by the waiter was correct, but was absolutely tasteless except in one regard -- it seemed to have been rolled in about 10 kilos of salt. For $23 or so, it was the least flavorful prime rib I've ever had. My side vegetables (which were frozen, as far as I could tell) were so drenched in pepper as to make them inedible. I couldn't keep eating them comfortably, it was that peppery. My wife ordered the N.Y. strip steak with shrimp. Her steak was possibly the second least flavorful piece of meat I've had the displeasure of tasting, the first being my prime rib. The frozen shrimp were gummy, but the buttery sauce on them was fine. The frozen drinks stood out for us: the chocolate covered strawberry was really fantastic.

We don't usually have dinner at the hotel in which we're staying, but a rainstorm got us to try Compass Grille. We were pleasantly surprised. They let my wife order a burger from the bar menu, while I had the seafood linguine. Both were excellent. Service was very attentive and the meals were served quickly. We wouldn't hesitate to dine here again!

My husband and I had breakfast at the Compass Grille after our one-night stay at the Sirata, before hitting the beach and pool for the day. The decor was very nice, the restaurant was very clean. The breakfast menu was your usual breakfast fare... Eggs, pancakes, waffles, omelettes, breakfast sandwiches and more. I had the classic breakfast which was 2 eggs (your choice), choice of meat (I had bacon), potatoes or grits, and toast. I enjoyed my meal. My husband ordered a Western omelette with ham and onion only, no veggies. Unfortunately it came out wrong. We did not have time to wait for them to re-make it, so he ate around the veggies. However, the manager was nice enough to comp his meal. The staff was very friendly and the service was prompt. The orange juice was delicious, although a little pricey at $4 plus dollars a glass.

  • Jennifer F.

My husband and I ate here on our first night at Sirata...we both had the pork chop dinner which was DELICIOUS. The potato ' s that came with it were some of the best I've ever had. Our service was pretty fast which was impressive because there was only one server waiting on tables and the bar which made us feel pretty bad that he was understaffed . The only down is I wish they would have had more of a selection for the dinner menu or let us order off the lunch menu as well. I know through room service you can do lunch all day so I'm assuming the hostess just never gave us the menu. Other than that it was good

GO FOR THE BREAKFAST BUFFET!!!!!!! The food was good and the price was reasonable for once. Everything else is overpriced...and the quality of the food isnt very good at all. By the way, The RumRunners menu and the Compass Grille menu are basically the same thing but with different names for the entrees.

While staying at the Sirata I decided to head down to Compass Grille to give it a shot. I tried the corned beef reubon sandwich and it was delicious. Good steak fries and decent draft beer selection. A lack of atmoshphere and higher than average pricing for the area is the reason for three stars. Service was decent, but could have been a little better considering I was one of only 2 at the bar on a Friday night. All in all, if you are checking into the Strata late and need a quick bite before retiring to your room, Compass Grille will satisfy. Otherwise there are so many other options available in the area with more selection at better pricing.

Ok, so its not the prettiest inside, but wow was the burger fantastic. We had an upbeat server and he was so friendly. My hubby and I ordered the 1/2 pound cuban burger. It was about ten bucks and outstanding. A lot of food for your buck. If you are in the mood for bar food, I recommend this place.

We went here while we were staying at the sirata and ate breakfast here... It was awful all the eggs are overcooked and my daughters cream cheese for her bagel was at first not given to us and when we asked for it it was frozen. Definitely don't go here.

    (1)
  • Jody F.

Don't go here. Awful. Less quality than Denny's or Perkins at quite a bit higher price. All six of us were very disappointed with our meals. Obviously won't return. Should have gotten a happy meal.... or 30 of them for the same price....

I will never get back the Thanksgiving Day that the Compass Grille stole from me. Thinking it would be "elegant and nice" to avoid all the kitchen work, my girlfriend and I spent the 23.95 per person to reserve a table at the Compass Grille for their Thanksgiving Buffet. First off, the place is cheesy. 'Nautically' cheesy. Nautical decor is rather cheesy anyway, but this place comes across as an even cheesier, sadder version of Nautical Cheese. We were seated at a tiny 2-top table near the kitchen, apparently right behind the wall from the dishwasher. It would start up every 7-8 minutes and sounded like a jet engine was on the other side of the (thin) drywall. Just awful. It was hard to hear the server talking while it was running. (Did I mention we made reservations weeks in advance?) Oh, the server...the mysterious woman who never bothered to greet us or give us drinks for 10-15 minutes. This is a buffet. The ONLY thing, I repeat, the ONLY thing she had to do was drop our waters and say "please help yourself". We were only acknowledged after we flagged down a random employee. Such a bad start, and it was only going to get worse. The buffet layout was the worst I have ever seen at a restaurant. The reason buffet places have "stations" is so that people coming back to refill can choose what they want and then go to that station to replenish (salad area, main course, meats, etc). The Compass Grille had ONE BUFFET LINE and a dessert station. If you wanted to go back for more potatoes, you had to wait in line with all of the people just starting through the line, meander past the salad stuff, the soup station etc... and the line was consistently, frustratingly LONG. Worst ever. The food was a joke. Other than the lobster corn bisque (which was kickass), everything else was "cafeteria grade schlock". Being that this was THANKSGIVING, one would assume there would be turkey and stuffing, yes? There sure was...they had lukewarm DELI SLICES (sandwich turkey) served atop a sad dollop of bland stuffing. Even though they had a roast beef carving station in place, they "forgot" a turkey! All they had was a steam table with these little horrors. You could not even get more stuffing unless you got the whole dollop of DELI turkey and stuffing. Turkey and stuffing are two of the most important items for a Thanksgiving Dinner, and they didn't have a fresh turkey OR a tray of stuffing - just the godawful little crusty "stuffing turkey combos". Unforgivable and worth a one-star rating on that fact alone. DELI SLICES OF TURKEY. It still seems surreal. After filling up on bread and bisque almost exclusively...I figured at least dessert would be satisfactory. How do you screw up dessert? Well, by ordering a metric sh*tload of crappy frozen mini-desserts from Nobel Sysco of course! It was ALL inedible. Prepackaged, dry cakes and flavorless mini-pies which would be sad to see on your tray in an elementary school. Quite literally the worst dessert selection I have ever experienced at a buffet, including 5.95 lunch buffets. They went cheap, and it showed. I, however, spent 25 bucks for some lobster corn bisque and bread - which was not cheap. The email I received from the Sirata Resort announcing this "event" had graphics in it which took more care and planning than this dessert table...or the buffet as a whole. You would have to hire a European terrorist to take my daughter hostage, then make dining here part of the 'release arrangement' to get me to EVER come back through the doors of this so-called restaurant. Never. Ever. Again.

I would not come back honestly....been here over an hour for a crappy appetizer, cheesecake to go and water.
